Haiti’s devastating earthquake and the plight of its survivors packed the airwaves earlier this year. News feeds were filled with pictures of crumbled buildings, medical teams helping the wounded, and survivors cramming ferries to leave the Port au Prince area. Many of them moved north to the areas around Cap Haitien.
As the months rolled by, reports from Haiti became scarce – but the needs have not gone away. Orphanages are filled with children who lost their parents in the quake, lines of hundreds of refugees still await food and water, schools need supplies, and there continues to be an ongoing need for medical care. This is where Cruise4Haiti can help.
The goals for Cruise4Haiti are:
* To raise donations for our two non-profits: Airline Ambassadors International and For Haiti with Love. Both of these 501c3 charitable organizations have been on the ground in Haiti since before the earthquake and are doing great things there;
* To increase awareness of Haiti’s continuing needs;
* To join with our non-profits in bringing our donations to Haiti in time for the holiday season.
All of our fundraising efforts over the upcoming months will culminate in our Cruise4Haiti event on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas, departing from Miami on November 14, 2010. As part of our cruise, our group will be meeting and interacting with non-profit leaders, making and assembling items for disadvantaged children in Haiti and San Juan, and delivering our donations to in-country non-profit staff in Labadee, Haiti.
So, please join with us in our Cruise4Haiti. As Carrie Finley Bajak (www.cruisebuzz.net) says, “This is a wonderful way to make a difference, meet new people, and have fun on one of the most exceptional ships afloat.”
